An Early Stream of “The Black Oak” from KRIGSGRAV ‘Fires in the Fall’ LP (2023)PREMIERE

Today we have the honor and privilege of sharing an early stream of “The Black Oak” the third and final preview piece from Texas-based atmospheric and melodic black/doom metal trio KRIGSGRAV‘s upcoming seventh full-length album. In keeping with their tradition of expansive nigh-Cascadian treatment of melodic death and doom metal influenced black metal of many shades these folks reach from a wealth of classic and modern influences for this richly realized and I’d say most mature release to date. ‘Fires in the Fall‘, releases Friday, June 23rd on Vinyl, CD, Cassette and digitally by way of up-and-coming Indiana-based label Wise Blood Records.

“Black Oak” is a vital piece for setting the varietal yet cohesive tone of ‘Fires in the Fall‘ early on as it burns in steadily with their own strand of melodic death metal stamping post-black wonderment as spikes of doom n’ dramatism lend an inspirational hand to their work. The shades of gloomier classics from Agalloch and Woods of Ypres are still held within the more introspective nature of Krigsgrav in a spiritual sense but this is perhaps a bit more of an open-armed, fortitudinous statement when taking a closer look at the lyrics, as vocalist/guitarist J. Coleman explains: ““The Black Oak” is about overcoming your personal struggles, while facing them head on unflinching. The lyrical tone is one of hope. Through strength of will to continue on, we can be adversarial to what may try to bring us down.” which suggests taking a closer look at listen to the record might yield some deeper, unexpected meaning, the sort of album that goes places soaring from piece to piece with notes of grace, destruction and solidarity in hand.

Thanks goes out to the artist, their label and representation for the opportunity to share this song early. Scroll down to the YouTube embed below to finalize your descent.
