THIS WEEK IN NEWS (8/15/20 – 8/21/20)

  • Supreme Chaos Records have announced the final details for the fifth full-length album from outlandish, emboldened and forward-thinking German death metal band ARROGANZ. ‘Morsus’ comes graced with a Heironymous Bosch vignette, due out October 2nd with an incredibly bright-yet-daemonic sound. This is a highly anticipated record on my part as I’d felt this band was long due for some shake-up as they’ve become more bold with each release. The title track makes a strong industrialized statement, check it out over on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • Soaring, screaming, and biting at the air the second full-length album from Greek black metal act ISOLERT comes gnashing out of catatonic slumber with ‘World in Ruins‘. Due out via Nihilistische KlangKunst this November 11th, this second album is more melodic than its predecessor and doubly emotionally intense as a result. Check out the first preview track “Staring at a Path Towards Nowhere” over on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • Caligari Records have set September 11th as the release date for THE PASSING‘s hard-rollin’ kangpunk debut EP, ‘The Passing’ on cassette tape. Need more d-beat in your life but you want some of that evil shit?! These guys are the right stuff, definitely wearing the stench of peak Exploited while keeping up with the modern standards of death metal/punk hybridization. The first preview song has a solid rip n’ roll to it, straight forward European style crusty hardcore sound that doesn’t fully lean into their metallic side. The first single “Buried and Forgotten / In Its Grip” is up on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • Suicide Records have announced the upcoming release of Swedish blackened post-metal group NOVARUPTA‘s second full-length album entitled ‘Marine Snow‘, due out this coming November 13th. The project is spearheaded by former The Moth Gatherer bassist Alex Stjernfeldt and will once again feature many guest vocalists from notable Swedish groups. No preview tracks or artwork yet, just an info page which’ll have the pre-order link whey they’re ready: [MORE INFO]
  • Underground black metal dealers Signal Rex have announced October 30th will be the date of release for FUNERAL HARVEST‘s debut EP, ‘Funeral Harvest‘, slated for 10″ vinyl status! High energy occult black metal with a bestial edge from folks heavily embedded in both Norwegian and Italian black metal circles, this band’s music previews very well with a strong slapping drum performance and aggressive vocals to match. Check out the first preview track “Sacred Dagger” over on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • Heavily influenced by the early 80’s LA hair metal movement Portland, Oregon quintet COBRA SPELL are set to dazzle folks who’ve got their hearts set on power metallic glam spirit and sing-along choruses via their debut EP, ‘Love Venom‘. Lots of shredding on the first single “Poison Bite”. They’ll self-released it this September 4th. You’ll recognize the dramatic flair of guitarist Sebastian Silva (ex-Spellcaster, Silver Talon) here but it is vocalist Alex Panza (Hitten, Burning Starr) who has the spotlight here. Pre-order link [Europe]: [MORE INFO]
  • New York-based occult black metal band OMINOUS RESURRECTION have swiftly announced their second ancient horror ‘Judgement‘ will release August 28th via the fathomless pit of restless evil Terratur Possessions. Crank your speakers, this project is within the circle of Agath and Negative Plane so expect tonal horror and a chasm filled with the violence of early Mortuary Drape and Rotting Christ. Their first album ‘Omniscient’ (2014) will also receive a repress, available the same day. Both will go fast so you might have to import them or hope copies hit the US soon. A preview track has been made available on YouTube: [MORE INFO]
  • Death! Righteous fuckin’ death erupts from ear to ear as Helter Skelter Productions / Regain Records set October 30th as the date of release for CYNABARE URNE‘s ghastly, uproarous debut album ‘Obsidian Daggers and Cinnabar Skulls‘ all formats. You’ll need only a few minutes with this album to get on board with their suffocating, blackened drive n’ dirging sound. Think of early Necros Christos but Finnish and in league with blackened Scandinavian death worship. Very satisfying stuff, check out the motörthrash riffs on “Last of the Icons Alive” to see why I’m exited about this one! [MORE INFO]
  • Emerging with a rocket launcher on their shoulders, Invictus Productions have set October 30th as the day of release for Finnish death-blast crew MALICIOUS‘ skull kicking debut ‘Deranged Hexes‘ on CD/LP. Its been about five years since their sought after EP for Me Saco un Ojo dropped so get back in gear! If you liked Obscure Burial, Vorum, and Degial you want this one too. Check out the first preview track “Hideous Transformations” over on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • Eisenwald have announced that October 23rd is the day and date for the North American release of a special EP from Netherlands black metal maestros ISKANDR entitled ‘Gelderse Poort‘, on 12” vinyl format. This is perhaps one of the most compelling, cinematic and accomplished groups to come from the general circle of atmospheric black metal genius out of the Netherlands lately, take note fans of Fluisteraars and Turia. Their second album ‘Euprosopon’ was a sleeper-hit back in 2018 and they’re thankfully back with even more ambitious music for this two song 24 minute EP. Just pre-order stuff so far, but listen to the last album for reference: [MORE INFO]
  • Southern California progressive death/thrash metal band MADROST have announced their fourth album ‘Charring the Rotting Earth‘ will release on CD/digital formats September 25th on No Life Til Metal Records, with vinyl planned for December. Folks might remember I was pretty enthusiastic about the direction of their last album and it sounds like this one is even more ambitious as they’ve added a keyboardist. Check out the album closer and title track over on Bandcamp: [MORE INFO]
  • The cult of Swedish death metal’s lunging overdriven spirit is in their blood. Ludvika’s DISRUPTED are back with their second album for the venerable Memento Mori this October 26th. Aptly titled, ‘Pure Death‘ will arrive on CD format after the vinyl version which is coming via De:Nihil Records on October 9th. A healthy sledgehammer of Dismember-sized riffs await alongside guest spots from members of Lik, Wretched Fate, and Bloodbath. The first preview track “Blood Worship” is available on YouTube: [MORE INFO]
  • Yet another stunner from the Caligari Records camp! Padua, Italy-based psychedelic metalpunk quartet FATE‘s latest EP ‘II‘ is set to release this September 30th on unholy cassette tape. A dramatic and estranged soul event, the first single from the tape “Mask of the Silver Death” comes close to resembling an epic 80’s metal tirade as it bears down in dramatic fashion. Check it out on Bandcamp! [MORE INFO]
